MS. CINDY LASKY: This is a very, very important time in family law, and it’s a very critical time to be sure that you have competent representation. We, we have seen, in the last two years, numerous changes in family law. In order to keep up-to-date and apprised of all the recent changes in the law, we maintain our CLE credits and all our other continuing education obligations as well as we subscribe to various publications such as “The Florida Family Law Weekly.” This allows us to be able to see appellate decisions literally within days of them being rendered.
One of the most important things to know in Florida family law is that we’ve had some very substantial changes in nomenclature. That is to say, we have changed definitions and words. For example, we typically hear the word custody. In Florida, that word is no longer going to be used. Instead, today we see words like co-parenting and time sharing.
It is extremely important that you continue to remain in close contact with your attorney, not only throughout your original proceedings, but also after your divorce has been rendered or your paternity judgment has been entered. It’s possible that a change in the law could affect your case. If you have a family law issue, whether your case is brand new or one that’s already been resolved, please don’t hesitate to call our office.
