New Laws Impacting Your Timesharing Rights

Recent changes to the law provide powerful protection for military personnel:

  • Military parents who are unavailable due to the needs of the military to exercise timesharing to which they would otherwise be entitled may designate another qualified family member during that parent's absence.
  • Military parents who are assigned to military service may petition for expedited hearings.
  • The nonmilitary parent is required to cooperate and attempt to resolve timesharing disputes and share information regarding the minor child or children.
  • Provides additional protections regarding custody orders and modifications [CS/CS/HB 25].

Florida law also provides for the possibility of extended timesharing when military personnel are on leave. Other rights and protections are provided by Florida law. We encourage you to contact our attorneys if you are involved in a divorce or family law matter that impacts your custody or timesharing rights.
